Welcome!

Welcome! Can we write a book in a month? Sure we can! Unless you're writing "War and Peace"--then it may be a few chapters. But the process will be the same.

There's a certain satisfaction, however, in holding a finished 'something' in your hand (whether your physical hand or your virtual hand), so I'll encourage you to consider a project of a manageable size. Think how good it will feel to write "The End" at the end. :)

We'll talk on the first day about what sorts of materials are suitable for self-publishing, but if you get here early, you can use this time to look through old worksheets and notebooks and writing you've done in the past to see if have anything saved that you might want to develop further. Or you could just start brainstorming a quick list of ideas of things you might like to publish, so you'll have something in mind when we start to analyze them.

This would also be a good time to make a separate folder for class materials, so you can keep things organized. Perhaps some sub-folders too, like "downloaded ebook files" and "useful website links" and "ideas for writing."

See you soon!

Dorothy

  4. Hi Dorothy,

I always keep a kind of portfolio where I put together lesson plans , reflections on a particular activity, a quiz sample and things of that sort.

  5. Aziz, that sounds so organized! I tend to leave bits of things in random folders. I have to get better about things like that.

  7. Hi Dorothy, it's good to meet you here! I've read a lot about self-publishing over the last number of years but the focus was never on the field of English language teaching. I'm really looking forward to learning about what's involved in self-publishing in ELT.
