Hi Catherine, You should be able to see the whole book. Just the cover needs fixing (plus the title) and I'm wondering what comes to mind for a cover when you see the content!
Remember that a cover doesn't have to illustrate what's inside--it can also set the mood. Like Aziz's cover for his games book--it doesn't show a game at all, but it's playful, so it shows the mood of games. So you could do cheerful primary and/or secondary colors to suggest kids and happiness. You could also have a photo of kids reading, or a kids' library, something like that.
How about something like this--children reading, but plenty of plain space above/below to add title and author name? (photo is free from Pixabay). It's a bit contemplative, but maybe that's OK for reading.
I like the photo Dorothy suggested. I do have some illustrations I could scan in and share with you of kids reading. That's if you want an illustration. I'd also suggest a geometric design of some kind - in nice bright colors.
Good point, Dorothy! You'll remember that the last one had a detailed magical kind of look and very primary, but I want something different this time (problem is, I'm trying to finish a book by Thursday's deadline, eek). Leonie - you're big on reading, so any ideas you have would be more than welcome!
I like the first two Barbara posted--the last one might be too hard to add text on top of, though, as it's pretty busy. Kate Cory-Wright, if you have time, why not try several of those images and put the title on, and then post them for us to look at?
Here are the first few pages with my new topic (I changed it a few days ago) to better reflect my interest in teacher well-being. I learned today that well-being is spelled with a hyphen in Canadian English. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwo_ITamV68qbWdacEUzT0w5bUk/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwo_ITamV68qbWdacEUzT0w5bUk/view?usp=sharing
Hi everyone! I'm an ELT writer, based in Ecuador. I've had more than 25 books published, mostly primary course books, but also secondary and adult. This will be my third iTDi course so far this year and I really hope to end up with an ebook, after planning for so long to do this. I'm looking forward to working with you all and to learning from Dorothy.
Introudcing the work and creating a kind of attention grabber is a very important step in writing I guess. So, here is a little piece I Wrote sometime ago. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByjDsaE1H6epbWdMYjVZYjlhS2c/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByjDsaE1H6epbWdMYjVZYjlhS2c/view?usp=sharing

If I remember correctly, my search term was 'children reading'

ReplyDeleteGood idea. Thanks, DZ!
ReplyDeleteBarbara - thank you so much. The middle one looks lovely, as it suggests older children reading on their own, which is the goal. Greatly appreciated!
