Homework #1
Homework #1
I have two ideas:
Idea 1: For English Learners:
My project is a vocabulary ebook. It is based on vocabulary for Oil and Gas industry which supported with ready online flash cards tools and student response systems that work on all devices.
• Who would read/use my material?
- Adults / Young adults learners at CEFR A2 level at my school
or anyone who is interested in technical English or Oil and
Gas English.
• Why? What would they gain from it?
- Learn and improve their vocabulary related to Oil and Gas
industry.
• What are they currently using or reading instead?
- They have some in house printed textbooks and worksheets
which are not interesting, interactive or organized properly
according to learners’ levels.
• Why do I think my material (or idea) is good?
- I have created my lessons for my learners over the past three
years and it worked well. Most of learners have difficulty with
vocabulary. When I started using my own materials, most of
my learners enjoyed my lessons. Also, I shared my lessons
with some colleagues who enjoyed it and asked me to keep
up producing more. Also, my materials would be better now,
since my school has transformed to use iPads. Each student
now has an iPad, so it is the time to have interactive lessons
instead of using PDF sheets.
idea 2: For English Teachers:
EFL Digital Teacher - Microsoft Innovative Educator Program / Teaching with iPads / ICT-based lesson Planning
• Who would read/use my material?
English teachers who are using technology in classroom
• Why? What would they gain from it?
Learn about Microsoft educator program and how to use
technology in classroom. Teachers will learn about different tools
they can use in classroom.
• What are they currently using or reading instead?
Some teachers still struggling how to use technology or which
technology they can use in classroom.
• Why do I think my material (or idea) is good?
Most learners are digital native now, as teachers we have to speak
the same language as our learners by implementing technology in
our lessons. Many school started transforming to use technology
in classrooms.

English for Oil and Gas sounds really useful! There's such a need for all these specific areas like English for Textiles, etc (before Syria broke out into a civil war, they were studying lots of English courses like this, with almost no suitable books). Way to go!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a great idea for ESP students.
ReplyDeleteI like your first idea a lot! I would include hotlinks into one of the cloud-based flashcard programs (Quizlet or Memrise), and include activities that have students making their own cards, as well as working with vocabulary lists in the variety of ways.
ReplyDeleteEDIT: I see you've got Quizlet in your materials - excellent!
