Homework 1

Homework 1
I am going to start writing an e-book for my students who are preparing for their final school exam. In Russia schoolchildren have exams when they finish the 9th grade (and should show they achieved level A2) and when they graduate their school (level B2). I will write for the first group of students (A2 level).
I am not sure about the name of the book, it can be something neutral such as “….(№) tips for exam preparation” or “…(№) activities to prepare for your exam!” or something more eye-catching (have to think about it)

Should it be done?
I think yes, because it can help students to be more autonomous learners.

•Who would read/use my material?
I have got two sons (they are twins) who are going to finish the 9th grade next year, so my sons, their friends, my students, students of my school, students preparing for this kind of exam can read my e-book.
Also it will be suitable for teachers who want to find some more activities for their students.

•Why? What would they gain from it?
Some students find it difficult to organize their time and think they can prepare for the exam only in the classroom with a teacher. I think it is a good idea to offer them a range of out-of-class activities for self-study to improve their speaking, writing, reading and listening skills, also some tips on time management wouldn’t go amiss.

•What are they currently using or reading instead?
Lots of students use only testbuilders, which is not bad. However, there are some activities that can provide positive washback.

•Why do I think my material (or idea) is good?
I suppose I know the problems students face during exam preparation and the kind of mistakes they make at the exam.

  1. Oh, good topic. I suggest you think of a few different broad categories to organize your tips under--like time management, study techniques, how to study with friends, what to do the day before, things like that. You could brainstorm the tips first, then organize them, then write them out.

  2. I like the topic, too. And I like that you're writing for your own kids and their friends as well as a general audience. That'll give you some personal motivation. Good luck!
